Around the World in Arctic Ways is the theme for the Arctic Research Open House on the UAF campus 4–7 p.m. Thursday, May 18.

Join us as we showcase our exciting energy research and meet our researchers at the ACEP booth in an outdoor tent on UAF’s West Ridge.

This free event opens the doors of UAF’s Arctic research to the public, offering a unique opportunity for visitors to connect with researchers and even engage with some of the work being done by UAF scientists around the world. Interactive displays offer learning and fun for kids and adults of all ages.

There will be more than 30 different activities to visit as well as free food. Parking fees at UAF are waived for the event.

This year, ACEP’s booth will host the bicycle watt challenge, a renewable energy coloring book station for young attendees and an activity to make your own wind turbine. Visitors will also have the opportunity to learn about ACEP’s research and meet the people involved.

Other activities taking place during the event include a Firewise virtual reality game, real-time microbiology demonstrations, smoked blueberry tasting, free Hotlicks ice cream, oyster shell painting, Mustang suit challenges, the opportunity to see and get in a life raft, learn about upcoming UAF Summer Sessions camps and programs, and much more.

The science conducted by UAF researchers impacts not only the Fairbanks community but our global community in areas as diverse as climate change, human and animal nutrition, natural resources, wildlife management, outer space and renewable energy.

This is an opportunity for scientists and researchers to engage the community by showcasing the ground-breaking and exciting research and outreach initiatives underway at UAF. Educating the public in this way is part of UAF’s DNA as a land-grant university committed to serving the community.

With over 50 research entities within the university, UAF is Alaska’s flagship university, responsible for more than 90 % of the research dollars coming into the UA system. UAF boasts the highest-ranking number of publications and citations in Arctic research of any university in the world.

We look forward to meeting you at our booth, please bring the whole family!
