Center Could Provide Arctic Communities Strategies for Climate Change
ACEP's Erin Whitney has been leading a planning grant to explore how an Arctic engineering research center could help communities in Alaska to adapt to climate change.
In early May, partners from around the state and from universities across the country held a workshop in Anchorage to discuss what such a center might look like and what technologies it could adapt for communities facing possible relocation. Discussions addressed modular structures, energy efficiency and renewable technologies, and soil stabilization. Partners gained many possibilities for future collaboration and left with a strategy for working towards an application for engineering research center funding.
