Virtual EV Workshop Presentations and Recordings Online
Last week’s Electric Vehicle workshop hosted by ACEP and the was a rousing success. The event, held completely online, attracted over 170 participants and speakers from at least eight countries, including Canada, Norway, Finland, Bulgaria, India, the United Kingdom and Kenya. Thank you to everyone who contributed their energy and engagement!
Of the many interesting topics discussed, a few particularly resonate with Alaska researchers, such as the information that Tesla is looking at many strategies to improve cold weather operability, including preheating of batteries while driving to prepare for fast charging.
Also, smart charging has the potential to cost-effectively avoid serious grid impacts when there is high EV uptake — grid impacts are modest in the short term, based on actual data from FleetCarma, Green Mountain Power and the Norway experience. EV’s are way more responsive to price signals than other household loads.
The workshop was the first virtual event organized by ACEP. It explored the technical and economic potential of EVs in Alaska and the Arctic and included presentations from EV researchers, users, utilities, equipment manufacturers and others from across the U.S. and Norway.
While the online format limited traditional in-person networking, it did open the conversation to the world and brought in participation from people who would not normally be able to travel to an in-person workshop event in Alaska.
Recordings and presentations from the workshop are online at /ev-workshop.
