These workshops, sponsored by the Alaska Center for Energy and Power, serve as a primer to the upcoming to be held May 24 - 26, 2022 at the Dena'ina Center in Anchorage, Alaska.
Join us for the first workshop in the series:
- - - Feb. 1-2, 2022 -
Industry and government efforts worldwide are seeking to field a new generation of small nuclear reactors with inherent, integrated safety features as combined heat and power resources, with Eielson Air Force Base identified as a site for an early commercial deployment. What does a potential path for more wide-spread adoption in Alaska look like? What unknowns exist related to the technology, environmental impacts, safety, logistics, permitting and licensing, and ownership models that would need to be resolved prior to determine whether this technology could play a significant role in Alaska’s future energy mix?
Speakers will include U.S. experts from the Department of Energy, Nuclear Regulatory Commission and industry, as well as Alaskan stakeholders. This workshop is organized in a way to help address some of the questions and concerns of Alaskans related to this technology area, organized around four key themes:
1) Does the technology exist? 2) Is it safe? 3) Is it economic? 4) Is it environmentally and socially responsible?
