Seventh Annual Northrim Roast and Boast
Local coffee roasters and cafés showed off their specialty items on Friday, Nov. 16, at the 2018 annual Roast and Boast, an event organized by students in a School of Management marketing class. For the seventh year, the School of Management joined Northrim Bank to host this community event, which featured delicious baked goods, fresh pressed juices, award-winning teas, organic kombucha and plenty of hot beverages.
Seven businesses showcased their creations at the event: Bagels & Brew, Diving Duck Locally Roasted Coffee, Go Wild Superfood Café and Juicery, Little Owl Café, North Pole Coffee Roasting Co., and Sipping Streams Tea Co. Joining the lineup this year for the first time was Mama Bears Organic Kombucha. All businesses donated gift certificates or baskets for the door prizes, and the first 100 attendees received VIP swag bags. The grand prize was a Viper remote start system from Street Sounds. ķƵ 200 people attended the event.
Students in the Principles of Marketing class helped organize and market the event, gaining organizational management, social media development, budgeting, team building and event-planning experience.
“You have to be on social media to reach your market these days, and it is interesting to be on the business side of social media,” said Sierra Kinworthy, a senior business administration student working on the project. “It’s really fun to learn how the technology works, and the strategy that goes into a social media plan. This project was an excellent opportunity to develop professional skills.”
