Diabetes Prevention Program
One in three adults has pre-diabetes. You can get help with weight loss, and lifestyle changes to prevent or delay the onset of type two diabetes by joining a national diabetes program. The ÌÀÄ·ÊÓƵ Cooperative Extension Service offers a yearlong program to help people at risk of developing diabetes lose weight and improve their health. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention developed the program, which is geared to individuals who are at risk of developing Type 2 diabetes.
The program offers 12 months of support for weight loss , small group Zoom meetings and access to a trained lifestyle coach. A scale, and curriculum materials are included.
2023/24 classes begin Oct. 11, 2023 with 16 weekly meetings then at least once monthly until Sept. 2024. There is a choice of two different classes. Registration is closed for the 2023/2024 session, but you can learn more about the program by contacting Melissa Clampitt.
The Cooperative Extension Service is a national leader in providing the Diabetes Prevention Program. Program quality is monitored by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Diabetes Training and Technical Assistance Center.
