Indigenous Media Teaching Demo with Princess Johnson

UAF Department of Theatre and Film welcomes the community to meet PRINCESS DAAZHRAII JOHNSON, a finalist candidate for the tenure-track position in Indigenous Media in the College of Liberal Arts. This public teaching demonstration will be held this week on THURSDAY FEBRUARY 20 from 1-2PM in the Gruening 503. The meeting will be both in-person and online.

Princess ‘Daazhraii’ Johnson (Neets’aii Gwich’in) is a writer, actor, producer, and director dedicated to uplifting Indigenous storytelling. Living on Lower Tanana Dene lands in Alaska, she has played a pivotal role in bringing authentic Native perspectives to film and television. Johnson is an Emmy-nominated screenwriter and producer for the Peabody Award-winning PBS Kids series Molly of Denali, where she has contributed to over 80 stories, ensuring accurate and meaningful representation of Indigenous cultures.

Her work extends beyond children's media, including her short Gwich’in language film, Diiyeghan Naii Taii Tr’eedaa, part of the Reciprocity Project, which was recognized as one of the "Brightest Stars" at the 2022 ImagineNative Film Festival. In 2022, she was selected for the Illuminatives/Netflix first producers cohort, where she is developing her first narrative feature film. Through her creative leadership and commitment to Indigenous storytelling, Johnson continues to inspire new generations of Native filmmakers and audiences, ensuring that Indigenous voices are heard and celebrated on screen.
