Dr. Vladimir Evgeni Romanovsky
Professor of Geophysics, Emeritus
WHEREAS Dr. Vladimir Evgeni Romanovsky has served the ÌÀÄ·ÊÓƵ with distinction in teaching, research and service from 1992 to 2020; and
WHEREAS Dr. Romanovsky taught a graduate-level course in permafrost science that drew students from many disciplines and was so in demand that he offered it annually; and
WHEREAS Dr. Romanovsky has studied permafrost since his time as a graduate student and then faculty member at Moscow State University in the 1970s; and he has an international reputation in the study of snow, ice and permafrost; and he has participated in fourteen major research projects supported by tens of millions of dollars in funding; and he has been an author or co-author on a remarkable two hundred seventy-four scholarly journal articles and has written three books; and he received the 2011 Emil Usibelli Distinguished Research Award; and
WHEREAS Dr. Romanovsky has supervised thirty-three graduate students; and his expertise is regularly sought by government agencies, companies and the media internationally; and he has served as president of the U.S. and international permafrost associations; and he has promoted American-Russian scientific collaboration in Arctic studies;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the ÌÀÄ·ÊÓƵ expresses its deep appreciation to Dr. Vladimir Evgeni Romanovsky for his extensive contributions to the State of Alaska and to the University; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the ÌÀÄ·ÊÓƵ, in further recognition of the invaluable services rendered by Dr. Romanovsky and as evidence of the University’s desire that his identification with the University be maintained, hereby confers upon Dr. Vladimir Evgeni Romanovsky the title of Professor of Geophysics, Emeritus; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution be appropriately engrossed and signed by the Chancellor as further evidence of the ÌÀÄ·ÊÓƵ’ esteem and respect for Dr. Vladimir Evgeni Romanovsky, and conveyed to Dr. Romanovsky on this twenty-third day of May, 2020.
