Dr. Eric Heyne

Professor of English, Emeritus

WHEREAS Dr. Eric Heyne has served the ÌÀÄ·ÊÓƵ with distinction in teaching, research and service from 1986 to 2023; and he is currently the longest-serving faculty member in the College of Liberal Arts; and

WHEREAS Dr. Heyne distinguished himself for his excellence in teaching, offering instruction not only in introductory courses but also in upper-division and graduate courses, seminars and studies of unique topics; and his dedication to, and regular instruction in, the English Department’s general education program in writing is especially noteworthy; and

WHEREAS Dr. Heyne has engaged in award-winning and prolific research and creative works focused on Alaska and northern literature; and he has numerous publications, including books, reviews, articles and poems; and

WHEREAS Dr. Heyne served the English Department as chair and the College of Liberal Arts once as interim dean and twice as associate dean; and he served in the Faculty Senate, including terms as president-elect and president; and he has served the University of Alaska Press as a board member and editor; and he has volunteered in the Fairbanks community for such programs as Guys Read and the Fairbanks Shakespeare Theatre;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the ÌÀÄ·ÊÓƵ expresses its deep appreciation to Dr. Eric Heyne for his extensive contributions to the state of Alaska and to the university; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the ÌÀÄ·ÊÓƵ, in further recognition of the invaluable services rendered by Dr. Heyne and as evidence of the university’s desire that his identification with the university be maintained, hereby salutes the appointment of Dr. Eric Heyne as professor of English, emeritus; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution be appropriately engrossed and signed by the chancellor of the ÌÀÄ·ÊÓƵ as further evidence of the esteem and respect in which he holds Dr. Eric Heyne, and conveyed to Dr. Heyne on this sixth day of May, 2023.
