UAF students, faculty and staff,

Last week, the UAF Troth Yeddha’ Campus and other Fairbanks locations and Interior Alaska Campus (locations outside Fairbanks) moved to orange status - as defined by the CDC COVID-19 community levels. In March, when we went to the color coding status our policy stated that when in orange status, masks were required in indoor spaces, and outdoor spaces if not distanced by 6 feet. That policy was communicated to campus last week when the color status changed.

Some factors have changed, however, since March when we adopted the new CDC coding. Among these factors are changes in community norms, the number of people who have already had COVID, application of CDC guidance across organizations and industries, and a shift toward personal accountability. After assessing the factors related to our current status, we have updated the ķƵ COVID-19 face coverings policy. It now reflects CDC guidance to “wear a well fitting mask indoors in public,” but replacing our word “required” with “highly recommended” while in orange status.

As such, under orange status the new policy reads:

  • Masks are highly recommended in indoor spaces

  • Masks are optional for outdoor spaces.

Masks will continue to be made available by facilities services. If you are not already vaccinated or need a booster, please visit the .

Additional information can be found on the if you have any questions on what to do if you test positive for COVID-19 or are a close contact. The UA system office had previously implemented use of a reporting process for COVID. That process is no longer supported systemwide and as such, use of the reporting forms will be discontinued.

Thanks for choosing UAF.
