Schutt, Slocum selected as UAF commencement speakers

Doyon, Limited President and CEO Aaron Schutt will give the keynote address at the ÌÀÄ·ÊÓƵ commencement ceremony at 1:20 p.m. Sunday, May 8, 2016, at the Carlson Center in Fairbanks.
Schutt grew up in Tok, where he excelled at science and math as a high school student. He went on to earn bachelor’s and master’s degrees in civil engineering from Washington State University and Stanford University, respectively, as well as a law degree from Stanford.
Schutt, who is of Koyukon Athabascan descent, worked as an attorney before joining Doyon in 2006 as senior vice president and chief operating officer. He was named CEO of the Interior regional Native corporation in 2011.
Schutt serves on the boards of the Rasmuson Foundation, Akeela Inc. and the Alaska Native Heritage Center, and is co-chairman of UAF’s Troth Yeddha’ Legacy Initiative fundraising committee.
The student speaker is Joe Slocum, who is receiving a Master of Business Administration degree from the UAF School of Management. The San Francisco native was a two-year starter for the Nanooks men’s basketball team. He graduated cum laude in May 2015 with a bachelor’s degree in communications from UAF.
The student speaker is chosen from among graduates from the 2015-16 academic year as a student who positively represents UAF.
