UAF to host Three Minute Thesis graduate student competition

Students will present lively, engaging summaries of their works in front of a live audience during the Three Minute Thesis competition at 4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 3, in Schaible Auditorium at the ÌÀÄ·ÊÓƵ.

The public is invited to attend or participate on-line.

3MT, hosted by the UAF Graduate School, celebrates the exciting research and scholarship conducted by graduate students around the world.

Developed by the University of Queensland in Australia, 3MT competitions allow students to share their work with a broad audience in three minutes or less using only a single PowerPoint slide. 3MT promotes students’ academic and professional communication skills and increases their capacity to explain their scholarship while engaging and entertaining a general audience.

Students compete for cash prizes. The first place winner will take home $750, the second place winner $500, and the third place winner $250. Other prizes include the $250 People's Choice award and the $125 Most Improved Competitor award.

Spectators can support UAF graduate students while learning about their research efforts. Audience members also vote for the People’s Choice award.

More information is available on the Three Minute Thesis webpage. For those who cannot attend in person, the event will be livestreamed on the Graduate School’s .
