Dr. Jayne Ellis, DVM

Dr. Jayne Ellis

Adjunct Faculty, CNSM

I earned my Bachelor's of Science in Wildlife Conservation Biology from Colorado State University, and DVM degree  in the ÌÀÄ·ÊÓƵ-CSU program as a member of the third UAF class! I completed a dual residency training in anatomic pathology and toxicology with two years at Michigan State University and a fellowship year focused on wildlife pathology at University of California Davis. During veterinary school and residency I completed externships at The Marine Mammal Center, San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance, Southeastern Cooperative for Wildlife Disease Study (SCWDS), Colorado Parks and WIldlife, and the Alaska SeaLife Center.

My research focuses on wildlife disease, specifically pathogenic viruses. My most recent studies focus on transmission of avian influenza to mammals, and respiratory viruses affecting moose in Alaska. Currently, I am teaching the necropsy lab at UAF for second year veterinary students and working as an On-Call Wildlife Veterinarian for Alaska Department of Fish and Game.
