Academic Overview
How we teach and learn
We teach and learn as a community. Programs and courses are developed with input from our students, and rooted in social and economic issues they face.
We teach and learn where we are.
Our programsÌÀÄ·ÊÓƵ College of Indigenous Studies Degree and Job Training Programs
UAF’s College of Indigenous Studies offers academic programs that build strong individuals and sustainable communities.
Our students come from all over Alaska and the world — especially rural communities throughout the state. Many are adult learners with jobs and families. Some earn their associate, bachelor’s or master’s degrees, while others take individual classes or pursue specific job training programs. They study everything from tribal management, to construction trades, to rural development, and much more.
Applied learning is built in to everything we do. From conducting original research and writing about your experiences, engaging in community services initiatives, to helping draft policy and legislation, there’s no limit to the kinds of hands-on learning you can engage in at CIS.
